 The Chateau
de Hautefort and its gardens are 3 miles away.
Also at Hautefort the 'musée de medicine' and medieval village is of
interest. There are several good restaurants in the
town. Market day is Monday.
 Tourtoirac is a small village about 3 miles from Cherveix Cubas which is well known for it's ruined Abbey. In 2010 some spectacular
caves which were only discovered in 1995, have also been opened to the public.
 Excideuil is a busy market town about 6 miles
from Cherveix Cubas and offers a good range of shops
including a supermarket. Weekly market on Thursday
morning. The main tourist attraction is the fort.
 Sarlat
is well known for it's medieval town centre which
featured in the film of Les Miserables. The Saturday
market is the best in the region. There are also
several well known restaurants serving truffles and
other Perigordian delicacies.
 Montignac is a pleasant
town on the river Vezere. In Montignac there are the
Lascaux caves which have the oldest known cave
paintings. Along the scenic route from Montignac to
Les Eyzies which follows the Vezere river
are several other sites of pre-historic and
geological interest .
 The Dordogne valley is known for its
chateaux, most of which played an important part in
the 100 Years' War. The most spectacular of these
are Castelnaud and Beynac.
On both the
Vezere and Dordogne rivers boat trips and canoeing
are very popular.
 Rocamadour is one of the most popular tourist
sites in France. Whilst at Rocamadour, as well as
the Abbey and the Chateau, visit Eagles Rock
 Oradour sur
Glane is the site of a Second World War massacre
by Nazi troops. Visitors can walk around the ruined
village and visit the information centre where you
can see films from the time and hear stories from
survivors.
